Thommankuthu waterfalls almost 17 km off from Thodupuzha town in Idukki district is a famous waterfall that attracts many tourists. This seven-step waterfall cascading down at a height of 40 meters within the dense forests and rocky beds is a favourite picnic spot of many. It was in the 1920s, the hunter Mr Thommachan Kuruvinakunnel revealed this hidden treasure in front of the whole world. Since then the waterfalls are regularly visited by tourists for their beauty.
Thommankuthu waterfalls is actually a perfect combination of two waterfalls, Thommankuthu and Ezhunilakuthu. Apart from the waterfalls, the place is also quite famous among the trekkers for the huge rock formations for adventurous activities like rock climbing, trekking etc. The gorgeous pool formed upon the fall of rushing water from heights also facilitates boating, fishing and swimming opportunities. Swimming is not advisable during the monsoon season due to the rising volume of water.
The trekking trails through the forest is a great experience for witnessing abundant forms of flora and fauna along with secret caves in the pathway.
