Thusharagiri Waterfalls

Two streams stretch across the Western Ghats, blending together to form Chalappuzha river. This fast-flowing Chalappuzha river cascades down the rocky terrain to form Thusharagiri waterfalls compressing of three waterfalls, Erattumukku, Mazhavil Chattom and Thumbithullan para waterfalls which are accessible via trekking trails. The waterfalls surely create a misty cloud above the air making it known as “Thusharagiri” which means a “snow-capped mountain”. 

Located at a distance of 50 km away from Kozhikode, this waterfall is a real spectacular spot to be seen and felt alike. After a long trek through the dense forests, you get to see each one of these waterfalls and take a deep bath to enjoy this natural oasis in its fullest. The trekking usually starts at the Thusharagiri hanging bridge constructed over the Chalappuzha river. It is the tallest arch bridge in all Kerala. A careful stroll on the hanging bridge reaches you to your very first destination, Erattumukku waterfalls. Stop by and enjoy the snowy spray of waters upon your body and soul. 

On your further journey, you can see Thanni Muthassi (Grandmother Thanni), a Thanni tree believed to be more than 400 years old. You might wanna get inside the hollow trunk of the tree, you can surely do that, as it is wide enough to accommodate three people at a time. The 400 meters trekk from the previous stop lead us to the very next surprising destination- Mazhavil Chattom waterfalls (The rainbow falls). The bewitching phenomena of bright sunlight passing through the sprinkling waters and forming rainbows are such a spellbinding sight to be experienced. 

At 500 meters you get to the third waterfall- Thumbi Thullum para, our final destination. A perfect closure to the beguiling journey. An adventurous trek to the majestic waterfalls situated in the depths of dense forests, above the misty mountains is sure to make a hell lot of a trip.
